To compete in a global economy, manufacturers are forced to move towards\nlow volume production of innovative and customized products with high\nadded value. Three-dimensional printing, also known as additive manufacturing\n(AM) or rapid prototyping enables and facilitates production of\nmoderate to mass quantities of products that can be individually customized.\nThe technology is truly innovative with endless product design possibilities\nand potential to enhance global supply chain capabilities. The\ntechnology improves efficiencies of the entire supply chain, from the cost of\ndistribution to assembly and carry, all the way to the component itself. This\narticle reviews evolution of new supply chain models, examines some of the\npotential benefits of AM in challenging traditional manufacturing constraints,\nexplores its impact on the traditional and global supply chain and\nlogistics, and investigates its transformative potential and its impact on various\nindustry segments....
In order to understand the essence of tourism logistics activities, the author\nstudies and summarizes the existing research results of tourism logistics at\nhome and abroad, finding that there exist two kinds of logistics phenomena in\ntourism industry. Then, the author analyses in-depth the cross process between\nthe two kinds of logistics phenomena and tourist flow from the perspective\nof time and space as well as identifies the key factors in the process of\ntheir separation and combination. Next, focusing on the two kinds of logistics\nphenomena, the author completely explains the process of the tourism logistics\nactivities via the in-out transformation mechanism. Finally, the functions\nand objectives of the tourism logistics system are defined through the separation\nand combination of tourists and items theory in this paper, which provides\ninstructive directions for future research....
The adoption of a flexible exchange rate system since 1986 in Nigeria has made the country witnessed varying\nrate of the naira vis- -vis the U.S dollar. This paper examines exchange rate volatility with ARCH model and its various\nextensions (GARCH, TGARCH, and EGARCH) using quarterly exchange rate series from 1986q1 to 2014q4. The\nimpact of exchange rate volatility on non-oil exports was also examined using Error Correction Model (ECM) with two\ndifferent measures of volatility. The results obtained confirm the existence of exchange rate volatility and also found a\nsignificant negative effect on non-oil export performance in Nigeria. Therefore, the Nigerian government should ensure\nan appropriate policy mix that not only ensures a stable and realistic exchange rate but also conducive atmosphere for\nproduction and exportation....
The phenomenon of international production sharing networks (also known as production fragmentation, global value chains, or vertical production networks), which is associated with offshoring/outsourcing, has gained increasingly importance in the contemporary globalization process. This paper analyzes the patterns and trends in international production sharing and export growth in China and Vietnam over the last twenty years. More specifically, in addition to overall trends, our study examines the developments across four broad economic sectors and fifteen manufacturing industries. Furthermore, for both countries the relationship between a countrys participation in international production sharing networks and a countrys export development (in terms of the domestic value-added content of exports) is investigated through a statistical analysis. The empirical results indicate that China and Vietnam have increased substantially their participation in production networks. Moreover, we find that the extent of a countrys involvement in international production sharing highly correlates with improved export performance. This suggests that Chinas and Vietnams impressive export expansion over the last twenty years can be attributed, in part, to increasing integration into global value chains....
This paper evaluates Tanzania Public Service Leadership Competency Framework\n[TPSLCF] so as to establish the extent to which it addresses the core\nknowledge needs of the government. Based on public administration viewpoint,\nsemantic and linguistic analyses are used to compare the knowledge\nneeds of the government as proposed by the Presidents inaugural speech, the\nnational research priorities and the TPSLCF. The findings indicate that to a\nlarge extent, the TPSLCF addresses the core knowledge needs of the government\nand therefore has the potential to improve public service delivery.\nHowever, the findings further signify that currently the TPSLCF does not\nstand as a holy grail of service delivery as there are some critical facets in it\nwhich need improvement. It is recommended in this paper that there is a need\nto review and customize TPSLCF as the way to align it with the current and\nfuture needs of the leaders and the governments. The article concludes with\nimplications for future research and practices....
